More and more medical professionals tell their patients to look into mindfulness, meditation and yoga to help ease various mental and physical disorders. We are currently living in a society that expects us to do more than we can often handle mentally and at a pace our bodies just can't work at. It seems to be a hype to 'never have time' and it's unacceptable not to be busy all the time. This pressure doesn't just cause mental discomfort, but it can actually manifest in a variety of physical discomforts too.
Social media, TV, the web.. It all shows us perfect people, in unattainable luxurious places with bodies 'perfect' beyond reach. And even though by now we know that most of what is shown on (social) media isn't what it seems, it can still make us feel like we aren't enough. Our phones are very smart these days, hence why they call them smartphones. They listen to what we say, they remember what we like, and make us addicted to the rays of blue light. The problem with this phone dependency is that the light of the screen itself disturbs specific hormones and thus our sleep. The content we read through that same screen often ruins our happiness. The images and pressure we are exposed to whilst scrolling down these pages, often contribute to things like body dis-morphia, a lack of self-love and a feeling of incompetence. Everything just screams, that we aren't enough, and that we aren't doing enough to change that.
Another problem seems to be that we have forgotten how to play. Truly, simply, play. We seem to not know how to do something just for enjoyment anymore. It seems that we even stopped remembering how to simply sit down and take a deep breath. The attitude is: If it isn't productive, it isn't justified. And those cropped up emotions? yeah.. 'Ain't nobody got time for that'. This mindset and the expectations that come along with it, create a lot of unhappiness, anxiety and even depression. It is no wonder then, that a lot of people are getting more curious about these 'ways' to de-stress and feel lighter. And are trying to find methods to detoxify the mind and enlighten your spirit. 'I can't do meditation', 'I don't know where to start', or 'maybe I'm not spiritual enough' are mostly the thoughts following straight after. The thing is, you perfectly well know how to, but sometimes it helps to have someone to guide you through and show you how to slow down, feel and breathe.
